The National Championship Show 2012 Critique

I enjoyed judging this, my second favourite breed. I found the  overall quality high. Although some are losing the elegance which is so much  part of the breed. Was pleased with the overall soundness of movement but felt  the lightness of movement was not quite so good. Some of the classes were  difficult to judge and some placings on another day could be reversed.

MPD
(3)  1 Phillips' Harropine Prince Of Tides At Ladygrove. All three puppies were  immature, perhaps no bad thing, first shows promise, is typy, truest movement  in class, lovely head, filled in front and correct quarters. 2 Merrick  &Keeling's Pedlarspath Shaman. Quite good front, good bone, pleasing  topline, just needs to come together, plenty of time. 3 Merrick's Pedlarspath  Secret Star.

JD
(6,1) 1 Williams' Greyflax Pie In The Sky. Mixed class in  type and quality, first had good length to foreface, decent front and shoulder  angulation, kind eye, harsh coat, moved soundly and lightly. 2 Helps'  Beardswood Quinlan. Lovely strong masculine male, a bit straight in pastern,  liked his length of back movement, light but not so positive as first, has  plenty of time. 3 Owen &Brodie's Wolfscastle Orson.

PGD
(4) 1 Peach's  Kilbourne Warhol. Another masculine dog, wouldn't like any more length, typy  head, good depth of brisket, solid front and bone, moved very positively in  front, just slightly off on hind. 2 Rhodes &Morton's Gentom Semper Fi.  Liked this dogs head, front and quarters, great strength in thighs, movement  very unsettled. 3 Stuart &Holt's Regalflight Tomahawk At Ollandsheart.

LD
(5,1)  1 Phillips' All Guns Blazing For Ladygrove. Pleasing hound, good bone, liked his  head and eye, deep chest, harsh coat, good pasterns but would prefer tighter  feet, sound front movement with good reach. RCC. 2 Shannon's Erewhon Dambuster  ShCM. Lovely old fashioned type, long, strong neck and well placed shoulders,  good fallaway and shoulders, correct light action, viewed from the side. 3  Meer's Kilbourne Harvey At Lordswell.

OD
(5) 1 Girling's Ch Pyefleet  Rollo. The one to catch my supper. Very well made masculine head but would  prefer a kinder eye, super front, good harsh coat and furnishing, strong neck,  topline and quarters well muscled, very sound mover fore and aft with reach and  drive. CC. 2 Spence &Heathcote's Hyndsight Riddick. Another with great  quality, nice head and preferred his eye to first, pleasing front, shoulders,  topline and depth, not as strong or positive movement as first. 3 Adams' Cscarf  O'Cockaigne (Imp NL).

MPB
(2) 1 Peach's Kilbourne Unity. Good length of  foreface and correct expression, well filled in front, good length of neck,  liked her topline, very sound front movement, needs to strengthen in hocks,  plenty of time. BP. 2 Merrick's Pedlarspath Seraphina. 6 mths and very  immature, liked her well placed shoulders and return of upper arm, also correct  fallaway, moved very erratically, hopefully this will improve as she develops.

JB
(6,1)  1 Helps' Beardswood Quintessence. The best mover in the class. Typy head with  length of foreface, well balanced bitch with good topline, excellent return of  upper arm, correct feet, one to watch. 2 O'Brien &Quinn's Araceta Cordelia.  When she settled she moved well. Soundly and lightly. Good front, topline and  quarters. 3 Owen &Brodie's Wolfscastle Oona.

PGB
(14, 4) 1 Mansell  &Duddell's Canerikie Coco Clarissa. Old fashioned type with very pleasing  head and eye, strong front, correct outline, moved very truly and soundly, as  did many in this strong class. 2 O'Brien &Quinn's Hoddingrey Terrona. Liked  this bitch as well, many of the above comments apply, good type, just lost out  to first on muscletone. 3 Peach's Kilbourne Wendela.

LB
(10,2) 1 Adams's  Ardneish Pantalaimon. Well made bitch with good balance fore and aft, typical  eye, good bone, strong thighs which helped her to cover ground on the move,  very sound. 2 Taylor's Guinivere Starshire From Kilbourne. Preferred size of  first but liked her type very much, well balanced bitch with good bone and very  good movement. 3 Bond's Stainlonan Bellis At Regalflight.

OB(7,1) 1  Taylor &Peach's Ch Brackenland Tan At Kilbourne. She caught my eye when she  entered the ring and did not disappoint. The type I like. Lovely eye and  typical head, good front and excellent return of upper arm, very well balanced  with good feet, super mover. CC, BOB & Group 2. 2 Helps' Rosslyn Pippa Of  Beardswood. Very strong well made bitch who pressed first hard, shown in good  hard muscular condition, very sound, very positive, sound movement, also very  light. RCC. 3 Bailey's Greyflax Crystal.
